The Supreme Court has said that there is a need to work actively on disposal of pending cases in courts across the country. A bench of Justices S Ravindra Bhat (Retd) and Arvind Kumar has issued several major directions regarding speedy disposal of pending cases. The court order came out on Friday. The court said, there is a need to take active and immediate steps to settle the pending cases at all levels. The court said that all stakeholders should introspect to fulfill the aspirations of the litigants who want speedy justice.

Important instructions for lower courts
There is an urgent need to cut down on the methods adopted to keep cases pending and delay proceedings, the apex court said. The Supreme Court on Friday issued several important instructions for speedy disposal of cases. The Court gave directions to all the district and taluka level courts on matters like execution of summons, filing of written statements, completion of pleadings, recording etc.

Instructions to establish committees also
The apex court also made several important observations on admissions and denials, framing of issues and scheduling of hearings for speedy disposal of cases. The Supreme Court also directed the setting up of committees by the Chief Justices of the respective states for continuous monitoring of old cases pending for more than five years.

Curb methods of delaying proceedings
The court said that lakhs of petitioners file cases in the hope of justice and speedy justice. In such a situation, it is a big responsibility on all the stakeholders to ensure that people's faith in the court system is not diminished due to delay in justice. The court said, "There is a need for such preparations to be geared up to meet the aspirations of the litigating public who want speedy justice. It is also necessary to curb the methods adopted to delay the proceedings. The court said that delay However, the litigation may be suitable only for certain sections of the public involved.

The country's economic growth also depends on a strong justice delivery system.
The court said, it is important to note that about six percent of the population in India is affected by litigation, in such a scenario the courts will play an important role in the lives of the people of the country governed by the rule of law. The bench, in its detailed order, said, “Effective justice and the system to deliver it lead to peace in the society and harmonious relations among the citizens.” The economic growth of a country also "depends on the strong justice delivery system that we have in our country," the court said.
