China's top diplomat Wang Yi is going on a four-day visit to Russia on Monday. Regarding the visit, it is being said that during this period both the countries are expected to deepen mutual political trust. The visit comes ahead of President Vladimir Putin's potentially historic visit to Beijing in October.

"Wang Yi will meet with Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev for the annual security talks," the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement. Wang Yi heads the Foreign Ministry as well as the ruling Communist Party's foreign affairs office, the statement said.

They are also expected to lay the groundwork for Putin's visit to the Chinese capital for the third Belt and Road Forum, following President Xi Jinping's invitation during a high-profile visit to Moscow in March. Putin participated in China's first two Belt and Road Forums in 2017 and 2019.
