Taiwan President Lai Ching-te said in his speech on Monday that China should stop threatening and intimidating us. Peace is the only option and Beijing must respect the choice of the Taiwanese people.

He said that China should take global responsibility along with Taiwan and work hard to maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the region. We also want to tell the world that prosperity for peace and stability is our goal. There has been no immediate reaction from China regarding this.

Lai said that dear countrymen, we have the ideal of maintaining peace, but we should not be confused. It must be understood that even if we accept all of China's claims and give up its sovereignty, China's ambition to annex Taiwan will not end.

In the meantime, during the past day, Chinese activity has been seen near Chinese Taiwan. Seven ships and six aircraft from China have been identified. Chinese aircraft have traversed the Taiwan Strait's center line during this time.

Sanctions against Boeing and two other defense firms for selling weapons to Taiwan were announced by China's Commerce Ministry. This action is the most recent in a string of penalties Beijing has levied against defense contractors for their past arms sales to Taiwan.
