China: 16 workers killed in coal mine accident, work stopped for a day in all coal mines of Panzhou city
An accident occurred on Sunday in a government-owned coal mine in China's Guizhou province. About 16 laborers have died in this accident. All were workers of Guizhou Panjiangzhen Refined Coal Company. It is noteworthy that in February, 53 people were killed in a mine collapse in the Inner Mongolia region. A coal mine accident has occurred in Panzhou city of Guizhou province in southern China. About 16 laborers died in this horrific accident that happened on Sunday.
All of them were workers of Guizhou Panjiang Refined Coal Company. The owner of the mine informed the Shanghai Stock Exchange on Monday. According to Shanghai-based commodity consultancy Mysteel, after this accident, work in all coal mines of Panzhou city has been stopped for a day.
The Mine Safety Administration of Guizhou told news agency Reuters that there is no information yet on the circumstances of the accident. According to Mysteel Company, the total production capacity of the field is about 52.5 million metric tons per year, mostly coking coal. This accounts for about 5% of China's coking coal production capacity.
State-owned Panjiangzhen Coal has ordered safety inspections at all its mines, it said in an exchange filing. Apart from this, many measures have also been taken to ensure safe production. The company operates seven coal mines with a total capacity of approximately 17.3 million tonnes. According to Mysteel, the mine where the accident occurred has an annual capacity of 3.1 million tonnes.
This is not the first such accident in China; such accidents have happened in many coal mines before. In February, 53 people were killed in the collapse of an open-pit mine in the Inner Mongolia region. Authorities have announced measures to improve security in the area.
