The BJP has strongly opposed the increase in bus fares by the government of Punjab. The party has said that during elections, Aam Aadmi Party falsely promises to give free electricity and water to the people, but at the time of coming to power, it troubles the public by increasing the prices of the aforementioned things. The party has termed the hike in the bus fare by the Punjab government as 'Jazia Tax'.

The Punjab government had earlier raised the plan of action from 23 paise to 145 paise per kilometer. Earlier, the Bhagwant Mann-led government in Punjab had reduced the subsidy on electricity. Also, VAT was increased on the selling price of petrol and diesel, which further raised the price of petrol and diesel in the state. Congress and BJP had termed these steps by the Bhagwant Mann government against the interest of the common man.

BJP national spokesperson Shahzad Poonawala said that this politics of lies should stop. He said that promising free electricity and water to mislead the public during elections and later increasing their prices is cheating the public. He said that this is not happening only with the Punjab government. Similarly, in Himachal and Karnataka, the Congress governments of India Alliance made big promises to mislead the public and get votes, but after coming to power, they did not have money left even to pay salaries to the employees. He said that this kind of politics should stop.
