Bengaluru: A person from Bengaluru has been arrested by the police from Srinagar. In fact, the accused forced his live-in partner to convert to marriage and had sexual relations with her only on the pretext of marriage. Karnataka Police on Friday arrested a man from Srinagar who forced his partner of another religion to convert. Also, the police said on Friday that the accused man also had sexual relations with the woman on the pretext of marriage.
The accused has been identified as Mogil Ashraf Baig, who worked in an IT firm here. He has known the victim since 2018 and was in a live-in relationship with her. He said that the woman also worked in a tech firm here.
According to police, the couple was planning to have a court marriage, but later the man allegedly pressured the woman to convert to Islam. The woman also accused Baig of convincing her to have sex with him on the pretext of marriage.
While filing the complaint, the woman alleged in the FIR that Baig forced her to have sex. “He has also accused his brother of threatening him,” a senior police officer told news agency ANI. The matter came to light on September 6, when the victim posted on social media platform X that she was raped and forced to convert.

Following the woman's complaint, an FIR was lodged at Bellandur police station on September 7. However, the case was later transferred to Hebbagodi police station, as the incident took place within its jurisdiction.
On September 14, Hebbagodi police station officials booked the accused under sections 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural offenses), 506 (criminal intimidation), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), and 420 (cheating). and dishonesty).
A case has also been registered under sections 417 (fraud) of the Indian Penal Code and section 5 of the Karnataka Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Act, 2022, the official said.
"A special team of police was sent to Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir to nab the accused," the officer said. Superintendent of Police (Bengaluru Rural) Mallikarjun Baldandi said, "Our team has arrested the suspect from Srinagar on Wednesday." He was brought to Bengaluru on Thursday and produced in the court here. We have got two days of police custody.
The police officer said that the accused person is being continuously interrogated in connection with this case and all the allegations are being investigated.
