Bengali government has contested the CBI probe, and the Supreme Court will hear the Sandeshkhali case today

On Monday, i.e. today, the Supreme Court will hear the petition of the Bengal government challenging the CBI investigation in the case of attack on ED and CAPF parties in Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district.

Details of the hearing of the case of an attack on the Central Investigation Agency team by the accused on January 5 have been given on the website of the Supreme Court. A division bench of Justices GR Gavai and Sandeep Mehta will hear the matter on March 11.

Remarkably, on March 5, the Calcutta High Court not only directed the CBI to conduct an independent investigation but also requested that the Bengal Police transfer Shahjahan Sheikh, the mastermind of this attack, from CID custody to the CBI on the same day.

In response, the Bengali government petitioned the Supreme Court for special leave, claiming that the Calcutta High Court had mandated that the CBI be given control of the superficial level investigation. This is a blunting of the right to recourse under the law.

However, despite being listed for urgent hearing in the division bench headed by Justice Sanjeev Khanna, this petition has not been heard yet.
