Rajasthan government announces 6% additional reservation within OBC category for most backward castes, promoting equal opportunities in education and employment. OBC commission to conduct survey. SC-ST organizations' demands for population-based reservation also considered. EWS category benefits from removal of immovable property condition.
Jaipur : In a landmark decision aimed at promoting social equity and inclusive growth, the Rajasthan government has announced an additional 6% reservation within the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category. This new reservation will be dedicated to the most backward castes within the OBC community, ensuring that those who have faced historical disadvantages gain better access to education and government employment opportunities.
The decision was announced following a consensus among the state government, OBC commission, and various stakeholders. In its efforts to identify the most backward castes, the OBC commission is set to conduct an extensive survey. The commission will diligently assess and evaluate various castes within the OBC category to determine the communities that have historically been the most disadvantaged and underrepresented. The findings of the survey will be presented in a time-bound manner, facilitating the efficient implementation of the new reservation policy.
This move is expected to empower the most marginalized sections of society and provide them with much-needed access to quality education and public sector employment. By reserving an additional 6% quota, the government is taking a significant step toward ensuring equal opportunities and representation for all. Historically marginalized communities will now have a stronger foothold in government jobs and academic institutions.

Furthermore, this decision comes in the wake of demands from various SC-ST organizations, who have been advocating for reservation based on population. The government has taken these demands seriously and is undergoing the necessary procedures to assess their feasibility. This underscores the government's commitment to addressing the concerns of marginalized communities and working toward a more equitable society.
In a separate endeavor, the Rajasthan government has also made a noteworthy change to the reservation policy for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category. The government eliminated the condition of immovable property that was previously associated with this reservation. This alteration ensures that individuals from the EWS category can fully benefit from the 10% reservation without any hindrances.

This dual approach by the Rajasthan government – expanding reservation for the most backward castes within the OBC category and removing barriers for the EWS category – reflects a progressive vision of fostering inclusive growth and social upliftment. The move is expected to not only provide better opportunities for education and employment but also contribute to a more harmonious and balanced society.
As the state government continues to prioritize the welfare of all its citizens, this step stands as a testament to their commitment to building a more just and equal Rajasthan. With these efforts, the government aims to create a future where every individual, regardless of their background, can flourish and contribute meaningfully to the progress of the state.
