Shahzoor CK:
After finishing college at 22, I had two clear options. I could take up a job and work under someone else, or I could build something of my own. I spent a lot of time thinking about it. Finally, I realized I wanted to create my own path. I didn’t want to look back years later and wonder, “What if I had tried?” That thought pushed me to start BUFF Cleaning Products.
Q: Why did you choose the cleaning products industry?
Shahzoor CK:
Cleaning products are essential in every household. No matter what happens in the economy, people need quality products to maintain hygiene in their homes. I saw an opportunity there. However, I also knew that the market was highly competitive, dominated by established corporate companies. That made it challenging, but it also motivated me to prove that a regional brand could compete on quality.
Q: Tell us about your first days in business.
Shahzoor CK:
We started in a small 100 sq ft room in Kannur. It was a very modest setup. There were limited resources, and every expense had to be carefully planned. I personally oversaw many aspects of the operation — from production coordination to market visits. Those early days were tough but incredibly educational. They built my foundation as a businessman.
Q: What products did BUFF initially introduce?
Shahzoor CK:
We launched a focused range of household essentials: floor cleaner, detergent liquid, washing powder, dish washer, and fabric conditioner. Instead of introducing too many products at once, we concentrated on ensuring these core items delivered consistent quality.
Q: Competing with major corporate brands must have been intimidating. How did you approach that challenge?
Shahzoor CK:
Yes, the competition was strong. But I believed that customers ultimately value performance. Advertising may bring attention, but quality builds loyalty. We focused entirely on product performance and pricing that offered value. Once customers tried BUFF products and saw the results, they continued buying them. That repeat trust became our strength.
Q: Today, BUFF supplies to more than 1,000 outlets. How did you scale to that level?
Shahzoor CK:
Growth was gradual and strategic. First, we strengthened our presence in Kerala. We built relationships with retailers and ensured steady supply. After establishing a solid base, we expanded into Karnataka. When we entered Karnataka, we launched simultaneously in more than 100 shops. It was a bold move, but we were confident in our preparation.
Now, crossing the 1,000-outlet mark across Kerala and Karnataka feels like a significant milestone — especially considering where we started.
Q: What role did retailer relationships play in your success?
Shahzoor CK:
Retailers are extremely important. They are the bridge between the brand and the customer. We ensured transparency, timely supply, and consistent communication. When retailers see steady demand for a product, they naturally support its growth. That mutual trust helped us expand steadily.
Q: You were recently honored as “Young Entrepreneur of the Year.” What did that recognition mean to you?
Shahzoor CK:
It was a proud moment. I received the “Young Entrepreneur of the Year” award from News Malayalam 24×7. Awards are not the goal, but they are encouraging. This recognition validated the hard work of our entire team. It reminded me that dedication and patience truly matter.
Q: What was the biggest challenge you faced during your journey?
Shahzoor CK:
The biggest challenge was patience. In business, results don’t come immediately. There were moments when growth seemed slow. There were financial pressures and operational challenges. But I learned that consistency is more important than speed. Instead of rushing, we focused on building a stable foundation.
Q: How do customers respond to BUFF products?
Shahzoor CK:
Customers appreciate the quality. In cleaning products, effectiveness is everything. Once someone finds a product that works well, they don’t switch easily. We are proud that many of our customers purchase BUFF products regularly. Knowing that our brand is present in thousands of homes gives me immense satisfaction.

Shahzoor CK:
Quality control is a continuous process. Growth should never compromise standards. Even as we expand distribution, we maintain strict checks to ensure product consistency. Our reputation depends on it.
Q: Looking back, would you make the same decision again — choosing entrepreneurship over a job?
Shahzoor CK:
Without hesitation, yes. It was risky, but it was worth it. Building something from scratch teaches you resilience and responsibility. When I see BUFF products in stores and homes, I feel proud that I chose to follow my own path.
Q: What is your long-term vision for BUFF Cleaning Products?
Shahzoor CK:
We aim to expand into more states and introduce new products in the cleaning segment. I want BUFF to become a nationally recognized brand while maintaining the values we started with — quality, trust, and consistency.
Q: What advice would you give young entrepreneurs who are hesitant to start?
Shahzoor CK:
My message is simple:
“Always learn to wait patiently. Your time will definitely come. Success will surely find its way to you.”
Many young people expect quick success. But real growth takes time. Focus on building strong foundations, learn from mistakes, and stay committed to your vision.

Shahzoor CK:
It’s been a journey of learning and growth. From a small 100 sq ft room in Kannur to more than 1,000 outlets across two states — it’s something I’m grateful for. But I see this as just the beginning. There is much more to achieve.
