Now there is a possibility of further reduction in inflation and reduction in the prices of petrol and diesel. There are indications of this from two places. The first indication has been given by an interview by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. Another indication is that the Bloomberg report has also indicated a reduction in the prices of petrol and diesel. Let us tell you that even after the fall in the prices of crude oil, there was no relief in the prices of petrol and diesel. There has been no change in fuel prices in the country since May 2022.
Recently, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri indicated in an interview that the people struggling with inflation are going to get big relief in the coming days. Hardeep Singh Puri said that the central government is encouraging state governments to join the effort to reduce fuel prices. Preparations have started to reduce the prices of petrol and diesel. The Union Petroleum Minister said that the Central Government had reduced the tax on petrol by Rs 5 and the price of diesel on November 4, 2021. After this, on May 22, 2022, the government again reduced the tax and gave relief of Rs 8 per liter on petrol and Rs 6 per liter on diesel.
Elections are going to be held in five states including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh in the last quarter of this year. This will be followed by general elections in early 2024. In such a situation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is making every effort for his third term. Regarding this, economists said that more fiscal measures can be discussed to control inflation and support rural income. It is believed that as the elections approach, the prices of petrol and diesel will be reduced.
The Government of India reduced the price of LPG cylinders of 14.2 kg gas by Rs 200 on Tuesday. This brought relief to about 300 million consumers. India has already tightened exports of staple food items such as rice, wheat, and onion to reduce food prices and keep the domestic budget in check.
