Monalisa is a world-famous painting by a world-famous painter Leonardo da Vinci. This is a picture of a thoughtful woman who is wearing a light smile. This is the world's most famous painting which is considered synonymous with painting and visual arts. A surprising revelation has been made about this painting, and it has come out what was the reason behind the valuation and fame of this painting. We are telling you this reason.
Actually, on 21 August 1911, 3 thieves were seen taking something from the Louvre Museum in Paris under a blanket of heavy blanket. But no one had an answer to what they stole from the museum. But it was when the inquiry revealed it that everybody was in shock. Actually, these thieves had stolen the picture of the Mona Lisa by the world-famous painter Leonardo da Vinci. The picture came out only after the period of 2 years of being stolen, and only then did anybody come to know why the thieves had stolen this picture.
Leonardo da Vinci was an all-rounder personality, apart from being a painter, he was also a draftsman, engineer, scientist, theorist, sculptor, and architect. Leonardo da Vinci started making the Mona Lisa for the Italian nobleman Francesco del Giocondo. According to author and historian James Sugg, this was his wife Lisa del Giocondo. It is believed that this painting was made by Francesco del Giocondo for his new house and before the birth of his second son. But then they could not get hold of it and it was hung in the museum.
After Vinci's death, it remained with the King of France and since 1797 it has been included in the Louvre Museum. Surprisingly, for decades, even critics did not give this picture as much importance as it deserved. But 21 August was the date that gave the Mona Lisa its place. According to historian Sug (article published in a foreign magazine), the Mona Lisa was not even a famous painting in the gallery till then.
Dorothy and Tom Hoobler wrote about the theft of the painting in their book, The Crimes of Paris (2009). They say that 28 hours passed before anyone noticed the four empty hooks.
The person who saw it was a stubborn still-life artist. The painter had to paint a part of the gallery. Tom Hoobler says, "He felt that he could not work until the 'Monalisa' was not there." He sent the guards to the gallery above. When he returned, he said that the wall was lying empty. When the theft of the painting created a ruckus, then it was given the title of masterpiece in the newspaper articles. It was written that it was the biggest theft in history to date. The museum remained closed for a week. When it opened, people rushed to see that empty hook.
First, the suspicion of theft fell on Pablo Picasso. He was questioned a lot but then he was released. Actually, the person who made frames in the museum was involved in the theft. His name was Vincenzo Perugia. He did not come out after finishing his work a day before the theft but went and hid in a cupboard of the art gallery with his two other companions (both were brothers - Vincenzo and Michele Lancellotti). After staying there the whole night, he carried out this crime with his companions in the morning.
When caught after 28 months, Vincenzo Perugia said that the only motive was to hand it over to its real owner. According to him, it was Italy's heritage and should have remained with him. In this way, the stolen Mona Lisa proved to be the best work of art by Leonardo da Vinci. A masterpiece that the whole world cites as an example.
