A woman from the Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh was given triple talaq by her husband working abroad on WhatsApp to donate a kidney to save her brother's life. According to the police, the husband was angry with his wife for donating a kidney to his brother. To do so, he demanded Rs 40 lakh from his wife. When the wife could not pay the money, the husband divorced her by sending her a message on WhatsApp. The victim woman was thrown out of her in-laws' house. Sadar area police CO Shilpa Verma said on Friday that on the complaint of the victim woman Tarannum (42), a case has been registered against her husband Mohammad Rashid and an investigation is being done.

Tarannum of Bauriyahi village of Gonda district was married to Mohammad Rashid of neighbouring village Jaitapur 25 years ago. After five years of marriage, when Tarannum did not become a mother, Mohammad Rashid married again and went to Saudi Arabia for a job.

Tarannum's elder brother Mohammad Shakir, who worked as a tailor in Mumbai, had kidney failure. He was undergoing treatment at Jaslok Hospital in Mumbai. When doctors advised a kidney transplant to save him, Tarannum donated one of his kidneys.
