West Bengal government denies reports of Britannia leaving the state, company said this
Britannia: At a press conference held at the state secretariat, Mitra said that he has spoken to Britannia Industries Managing Director Varun Berry, who assured him that the company is fully committed to West Bengal.
Tuesday, the West Bengal government clarified that Britannia Industries Ltd is not planning any exit from the state, and the company is fully committed to West Bengal. Dr Amit Mitra, Principal Chief Advisor to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, said this on behalf of the state government amidst a political controversy erupting over the closure of Britannia's Taratala plant.
While speaking to the media at a news conference at the state secretariat, Mitra said that he has talked to Britannia Industries Managing Director Varun Berry, who said that the company was committed to West Bengal.
Dr Amit Mitra told ANI on Tuesday, "There is a lie being spread not only on social media but also in mainstream media that Britannia is running away from the state. Britannia's managing director called and said they are fully committed to West Bengal. They are producing products worth Rs 1,000-1,200 crore here in the state, which will continue."
Earlier on June 24, BJP's IT cell in-charge and West Bengal co-prabhaari Amit Malviya had tweeted on X about the closure of Britannia Industries' factory. He said it symbolizes the fall of Bengal, a land glorified by its rich cultural and intellectual history.
He said, "Bengal is already in the vortex of severe unemployment due to Trinamool Congress' extortion and syndicates; now, with factory closures, people are facing an even more serious situation. Large-scale layoffs have started. Ironically, the fate of Bengal is now surrounded by the twin curses of 'unionbaazi' and 'tolabaazi'. The important question is, when will Bengal get free from this curse?" Amit Malviya ended the tweet with #AntiBengalMamata.
