Video calling app Teams will be separate from MS Office, Microsoft decided on the request of European Union
Teams was added to Office 365 for free in 2017 and later replaced Skype for Business. Microsoft Teams became popular due to video conferencing during Covid 19. At present, there are crores of users of the platform. Regarding the separation of Teams and Office, a Microsoft spokesperson said that they are separating Teams from their customers' M365 and O365.
The European Union (EU) had fined tech giant Microsoft for the integration of Teams and Office. The Microsoft Teams and Office bundle has been under investigation in Europe since 2020. But in the meantime, Microsoft has taken a big decision. The company has separated offices and teams globally.
Microsoft (MSFT.O) announced that it will market Teams, a chat and video app, independently of Office in all countries.
In 2017, Teams became a free addition to Office 365, eventually taking the place of Skype for Business. Video conferencing during COVID-19 helped Microsoft Teams gain popularity. There are crores of users on the platform right now. About the division of Teams and Office, a Microsoft representative stated that the purpose of splitting Teams from M365 and O365 is to guarantee customers' understanding.
On providing one service of Microsoft along with another service, Slack had said that Microsoft was misusing its powers. A complaint was also made about this. However, now both of them have been separated based on complaints. Microsoft said in one of its blog posts that on April 1, both these services will be available separately for users to use.
