Given the increasing number of mass shootings in America, the court made a big decision on Thursday. In fact, in the case of a shooting by a 17-year-old student at Oxford High School in Michigan in 2021, the court convicted the accused shooter as well as his parents (James Crumbly and Jennifer).

The accused parties in this case have all been given life sentences by the court. In its ruling, the court stated that despite worries about the student's mental health, the parents' actions in letting their son use a gun demonstrated egregious negligence. Nonetheless, James Crumbley's defence attorney stated that the parents did not notice any warning indications of mental illness in their son that would be dangerous.

Using the same gun that his parents had given him as a gift, Ethan Crumbley opened fire inside the school. Throughout the court proceeding, James Crumbley said absolutely nothing and did not advocate for himself. Remarkably, in December of last year, James's son received a life sentence.

The trial comes more than two years after Ethan Crumbly killed four students and injured seven others at an Oxford high school, according to media reports.

Hours before the shooting, Ethan Crumbly's parents were called to the school over violent photos of him. Her parents decided not to withdraw her from school and agreed to have her seek mental health counselling within two days. That same day, Crumbley murdered four students.
