Tripura floods cause loss of Rs 15,000 crore, 1.28 lakh people take shelter in relief camps
Tripura Floods: Floods following heavy rains have caused massive devastation in Tripura. Assessing the damage caused by the floods, state Chief Minister Manik Saha said that there has been a loss worth about Rs 15,000 crore. The same 1.28 lakh people are still forced to take shelter in relief camps. However, the Chief Minister assured that there is adequate stock of food grains and fuel.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said on Saturday that the floods in the state are estimated to have caused losses worth Rs 15,000 crore. Officials said that 24 people have died due to the floods since Monday. 1.28 lakh people have taken shelter in relief camps.
After the all-party meeting, Saha said, 'The estimated loss may reach Rs 15,000 crore. The figure may increase after assessing the actual loss.' The Chief Minister said that in the all-party meeting, the representatives of the political parties expressed their commitment to work together in difficult times.
He assured that there is enough stock of food grains and fuel. The government would maintain a close vigil on the markets as the authorities will not allow any inflation. Elsewhere, the flood situation in Tripura has improved on Saturday, according to IANS. Most of the rivers are now flowing below the danger mark. According to ANI, helicopters of the Air Force dropped more than four thousand food packets for local people trapped in the disaster-affected areas.
Floods related death toll in Bangladesh has reached 18. Even as nearly 49 lakh people were affected due to flood in 11 out of the country's 64 districts, Mr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the Interim Government, appeared and appealed to NGOs and people to help do the relief work.
Various local bands and musicians performed at the famous memorial site near Dhaka University to raise funds for the people affected by the flood. Thousands of people gathered in this program. The organizers of the program also appealed to the people to provide financial assistance to the affected.
