Earlier, at 1.15 pm on Thursday, excavation of the remaining 18 meters was started to reach the workers, but after drilling 1.8 meters the excavation had to be stopped due to the presence of rebar in the debris. It was repaired by 7 experts who arrived by helicopter from Delhi. Officials said- 1.86 meter drilling took place today. There is still 16.2 meters of excavation left.

Nodal Secretary of Rescue Operation, Neeraj Khairwal said that on Thursday, due to the rebar coming in the debris, the pipe had got bent a bit. The auger machine was damaged. With the help of two experts, the rebar was cut, after which the drilling work started again. Even on Wednesday night, the rebar had come in front of the auger machine. The NDRF team had cut the bars and separated them in the night itself.

Now know how the request will be done, what is the preparation

  • Once the drilling is complete, a 15-member NDRF team will go inside through an 800 mm pipeline with helmets, oxygen cylinders and gas cutters. People trapped inside will be informed about the conditions and weather outside. Doctors say that since there will be a huge difference in the temperature inside and outside the tunnel, the workers will not be brought out immediately.
  • If the workers feel weak, the NDRF team will pull them out of the pipeline through a temporary trolley fitted with skates. After this, 41 laborers will be taken to Chilyansaur Community Health Center in an ambulance. A 41 bed hospital is ready here. It will take about 1 hour to reach Chilyansaur, for which a green corridor has been made. If needed, the workers will be airlifted to Rishikesh AIIMS.
