Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu presented the budget, based on '7 grand Tamil dreams'

Tamil Nadu: The budget for the fiscal year 2024–25 was unveiled by the Tamil Nadu government on Monday, and it was based on "7 grand Tamil dreams." Women's welfare and social justice are central to it.

In addition to presenting the budget, Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu made several announcements. Among these is the housing project "Kalaignarin Kanavu Ilam," which bears the name of the late chief minister and DMK patriarch, M Karunanidhi.

He said that under the scheme, eight lakh concrete houses would be built to make rural areas across the state 'slum-free' by 2030. Thennarasu, in his budget speech, said that social justice, the welfare of the marginalized, and making Tamil youth successful globally are among the seven goals.

Among other things, he announced the allocation of Rs 300 crore in the budget for civic amenities including roads in areas around municipal corporations. Thennarasu said the state has made very significant progress in poverty alleviation through its welfare schemes. He said that according to NITI Aayog, only 2.2 per cent of people are below the poverty line in Tamil Nadu.
