Zakia Wardak, the senior Afghan diplomat currently stationed in India, resigned from her position today. Zakia has resigned from her positions at the Afghan Consulate General in Mumbai and the Afghan Embassy in Delhi. On social media, Zakia provided information about this. Zakia hasn't made a public statement about this, though, as of yet.

Zakia revealed on social media that she has faced several personal attacks and defamation, not only towards her but also towards her close family and relatives. Zakia said that her character was also attacked. According to Zakia, she had prepared herself for such comments, but she could not tolerate such things from people close to her. Zakia believes that this is not fair at all. In such a situation, Zakiya said that when her tolerance limit was crossed, then she had to make this decision.

Zakia has taken this decision after the gold smuggling case. In this case, Zakia was caught at Mumbai Airport on April 25, information about which has come to light only today. Actually, Zakia was bringing about 25 kg of gold hidden in her clothes with the intention of smuggling gold worth Rs 18.6 crore from Dubai to India. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) caught him at Mumbai Airport and recovered the gold from him.
