SC will hear Same Gender Marriage review petition today, had refused to give legal recognition to gay marriage
In his decision given in October, the Chief Justice of India had said that the court believes that Parliament should decide on the matter of recognizing gay marriage. In this case, the CJI directed the Central Government and State Governments to ensure that homosexual people are not discriminated against on the basis of their sexual orientation.

The Supreme Court will today hear the review petition against the Supreme Court's decision refusing to give legal recognition to the marriage of gay couples. The petitioner wants a hearing in open court. The court says that it will consider the petitioner's plea demanding an open debate on the review petition.
The Supreme Court had given its verdict on gay marriage on October 17. While giving the verdict, the Constitution Bench of five judges headed by the Chief Justice had refused to recognize gay marriage. After this, the gay couples were quite disappointed.
The Chief Justice of India had said that the court believes that Parliament should decide on the matter of recognizing gay marriage. A bench of 5 judges headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud had reserved the decision in this case on May 11. In this case, the CJI directed the Central Government and State Governments to ensure that homosexual people are not discriminated against on the basis of their sexual orientation.
