SC to start hearing on petitions related to Article 370 from August 2, Centre's new affidavit rejected
Supreme Court on Article 370: The petitions filed against the removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir will now be heard in the Supreme Court in August. While hearing the matter on Tuesday, the Supreme Court said that it will start hearing on the matter on August 2.
The hearing was held in the Supreme Court today on the petitions filed against the decision to remove Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir. While hearing about this matter, the Supreme Court said that it will start hearing on this matter from August 2. Article 370 is being heard in the Supreme Court after three years. Earlier in the year 2020, a constitutional bench of five judges had heard this case. The Center had filed a fresh affidavit in the matter on Monday, a day before the hearing in the Supreme Court. The court rejected this affidavit with the hearing today. On August 5, 2019, the central government abolished Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, by bringing a law.
Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said during the hearing on Tuesday that we will hear these petitions next month from August 2 at 10:30 am. He said that the hearing on Article 370 will be held daily except Monday and Friday. If anything else needs to be added to this matter, it should be completed by the last week of July.
In an affidavit submitted by the central government to the apex court on Monday, it has been said that life has returned to normal in the region after three decades of turmoil. Schools, colleges, and other public institutions are functioning smoothly in the last three years. There have been no incidents of strikes, stone pelting, and bandh during this period. However, the Supreme Court said that the fresh affidavit of the Center would not be considered.
Senior advocate Raju Ramachandran told that Shah Faesal and Shehla Rashid have withdrawn their petitions. The Chief Justice has directed to remove the names of both from the list of petitioners. The lead petition was in the name of Shah Faesal Vs Union of India, now it has been changed.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that our case is strong. We expect from the Supreme Court that the hearing should be held as soon as possible and elections should also be held. At the same time, Mehbooba Mufti, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and PDF chief, has welcomed the decision of the court. Mufti said that I hope that the people of Jammu and Kashmir will get justice.
