The Centre has been ordered by the Supreme Court to submit an affidavit regarding the purported anomalies in the Army's listing of officers for promotion. The Central Government will be required to provide details in the affidavit regarding the entire process of recruiting both male and female officers into the army. On behalf of the central government, Attorney General R Venkataramani was asked to submit a detailed affidavit by a bench consisting of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra.

Senior advocate Huzaifa Ahmadi, on behalf of women officers of the Army, had filed an allegation in the Supreme Court of alleged discrimination in the process of enlisting for promotion in the Army. Only after this, did the court seek information about the entire process from the central government. Huzaifa Ahmadi said that the Supreme Court had passed an order on November 3 last year, in which the Court had asked to consider the names of all the women officers, whose names were considered in the earlier Special Selection Board 3B (promoted to the post of Colonel). Board) had also considered. It was asked not to consider the names of only those officers who were already listed. Huzaifa Ahmadi said that reconsidering the names of other listed officers would be contempt of court.
