'Not the best throw' yet Neeraj Chopra wins gold in Federation Cup, DP Manu gets silver
Neeraj Chopra wins Gold, Federation Cup: Neeraj, who threw the javelin 88.36 meters in the Diamond League, won gold in the Federation Cup by throwing only 82.27 meters. His personal best performance is 89.94 meters which is also a national record.
After losing the title of Doha Diamond League 2024, Indian star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has now made a strong comeback. He has won the gold medal in the ongoing Federation Cup in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Neeraj achieved first place by throwing the javelin 82.27 meters and won the gold medal. However, it was not Neeraj's best throw.
Neeraj won gold here with a javelin throw of only 82.27 meters, compared to his 88.36 meters in the Diamond League. In addition to him, Kishore Jena and DP Manu took part in this activity. With a javelin throw of 82.06 meters, Manu took home the silver medal. In contrast, Uttam Patil, with a best effort of 78.39 meters, took home the bronze medal.
Neeraj, however, was unable to live up to expectations in the Federation Cup, only reaching a height of 82.27 meters. His best performance to date is 89.94 meters, a record for the country as well. In contrast, Jena, a teenager, committed the first two throw fouls. He then had two throws of 75 and 75.25 meters, both of which missed.
Apart from these four, Rohit Kumar, Shivpal Singh, Pramod, Kunwar Ajayraj Singh, Manjinder Singh, Bibin Antony, Vikas Yadav, and Vivek Kumar participated in the final of the Federation Cup Javelin Throw. This was also a means of Olympic qualification.
Earlier in the Diamond League, despite throwing a throw of 88.36 meters, Neeraj had lost the title and had to be content with second place. Jakub Wadlech of the Czech Republic won the title with a throw of 88.38 meters. Grenada's Anderson Peters finished third with a throw of 86.62 meters.
