North Korean leader Kim Jong Un inspects photos taken by the country's new spy satellite of key target areas, including South Korea's capital Seoul, and cities that host US military bases. The state media gave this information on Saturday.

Nuclear-armed North Korea launched a satellite on Tuesday, but South Korean defense officials and analysts said its capabilities have not been independently verified.

State news agency KCNA said Kim examined photos as well as images of some areas of North Korea during a visit to the National Aerospace Technology Administration (NATA) control center in Pyongyang on Friday.

KCNA said the photos were taken when the satellite passed over the peninsula on Friday morning and included images of Seoul and Mokpo, Kunsan, Pyeongtaek, and Osan, where US and South Korean military bases are located.

NATA told Kim Jong Un about the South Korean puppets' plan to photograph the area and the additional fine-tuning process of the reconnaissance satellite, adding that the process would continue on Saturday.

In separate comments carried by KCNA on Saturday, North Korea criticized the United States for providing advanced weapons to its "puppets", saying even a small spark on the Korean Peninsula would result in a global nuclear war.

It says the United States should consider the disastrous consequences of offering arms to puppet forces.

Top diplomats from Japan, South Korea, and the United States spoke on Friday and strongly condemned the (21 November) launch for its destabilizing impact on the region, the US State Department said in a statement.

Earlier this week, KCNA said Kim viewed photos taken over the US Pacific territory of Guam of US military installations.

On Thursday, South Korean Defense Minister Shin Won-sik said North Korea had "exaggerated" by saying Kim had already seen photos of Guam.

"Even if it enters a normal orbit, it takes a long time to conduct normal reconnaissance," Yonhap quoted him as saying at the time.
