The mother of the 23-year-old paramedical student (Nirbhaya), who lost her life after the gang rape that took place exactly 11 years ago in the country's capital Delhi, said on Friday that 11 years have passed, but nothing has changed. He said that with everyone's cooperation, he got justice, but many cases are pending in lower courts for 10-12 years. There was outrage across the country over the gang rape incident on 16 December 2012. Nirbhaya's mother Asha Devi says that many cases come to us and we can only give them our moral support. The system should work properly. There should be change, justice should be provided on time and the police should also work properly.
Nirbhaya's father Badrinath Singh claimed that even now whenever rape incidents occur, no one stands with the victim. We got justice because the whole country was with us. The speedy court helped our daughter get justice.
The victim student is known as Nirbhaya. Nirbhaya was raped and brutally attacked by six men inside a moving bus in South Delhi before being thrown on the road. He died on 29 December 2012 at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore.
Of the six accused, Ram Singh allegedly committed suicide in Tihar jail, days after the trial of the case began. Whereas Kishore was released in 2015 after spending three years in the reform home. The other four convicts Mukesh Singh (32), Pawan Gupta (25), Vinay Sharma (26), and Akshay Kumar Singh (31) were hanged in Tihar Jail on March 20, 2020.
