Russian President Vladimir Putin has said the deadly terrorist attack at the Crocus City Hall in suburban Moscow was carried out by radical Islamists, but many questions remain.

"We know that the crime was committed at the hands of radical Islamists, whose ideology the Islamic world itself has been fighting for centuries," Putin said at a meeting on Monday on steps taken after the terrorist attack.

The Russian president said it is already known who carried out the terrorist attack, but now "we are interested in who ordered the crime", Xinhua news agency reported.

He said that America is trying to convince everyone through various means that there is no trace of Kyiv allegedly involved in the bloody terrorist attack.

It is important to find answers to many questions, he said, for example, whether radical, even terrorist, Islamic organizations are really interested in attacking Russia, which stands for a just solution to the growing Middle East conflict today.

Putin also said that it is necessary to answer the question of why the terrorists tried to go to Ukraine after committing the crime in Krokus and who was waiting for them there.

Describing the attack as an act of intimidation, Putin said, "The question arises who benefits from this."

Despite the widespread desire to hold those responsible for the terrorist attack accountable, Putin stated that the investigation into it should be carried out at the highest level of professionalism, impartiality, and lack of political bias.
