'Mamata government not cooperating in Kolkata rape case', Central government reaches Supreme Court
The Central government has approached the Supreme Court against the Bengal government. The Center has accused the Mamata government of Bengal of non-cooperation in cooperating with CISF. Actually, CISF is handling the responsibility of security of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The Center has demanded the court direct the officials to cooperate with the state government.
The Central Government reached the Supreme Court on Tuesday and accused the Bengal government of non-cooperation in coordinating with the CISF handling the security responsibility of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
The Union Home Ministry has cited this as an example of systemic weakness, asking that the officials of the Bengal government be directed to give full cooperation to CISF.
The Supreme Court has, on August 20, termed the rape and murder of the doctor in the hospital as horrific and issued a number of directions including the constitution of a 10-member National Task Force for formulating protocols to ensure doctors and other health care professionals feel safe.
Besides, the apex court had taken up the allegations of mob violence in the hospital and of fleeing Kolkata Police from there seriously. While ordering the deployment of CISF personnel into the hospital to ensure the striking doctors return to work, the Supreme Court had said the patients cannot be left at the mercy of the doctors. The Home Ministry said in its application to the court in the case that the petition pertains to the deployment of Central Industrial Security Force personnel in RG Kar Medical College, including hostels where resident doctors are staying, for their safety.
