James Anderson will play the last Test of his career, can make this big record

Today, that is 10 July, 41-year-old James Anderson will be playing the last Test match of his life. This shall be the 188th Test of this great fast bowler. For reaching many bowling milestones in his long career, Anderson again has the chance to make a big record in his name in the last match too.

Thus far, he has taken 700 Test wickets at an average of 26.53. He is the first-fast bowler in the world to achieve this mark of 700 wickets. Anderson also remains at number three inducting most Test wickets. The only two ahead of him are Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan. While Muralitharan has 800 Test wickets to his name, Warne has taken 708.

Unless Anderson takes 9 wickets in his last Test match, he will not only break Warne's record but also take second position as the highest Test wicket-taker in the world.

Yet, this is not easy and Anderson also knows about it. He says that it will be much better if he can take 9 wickets. It is easier to say about this and more difficult to do. I do not pay much attention to my personal record. I would like to contribute to the team's victory by taking two or three wickets on important occasions. Now, whether James Anderson breaks Shane Warne's record or not, till now there is no fast bowler in Test cricket who came into the thinking of challenging his record of 700 wickets. His teammate Stuart Broad also hung up his boots after 604 wickets, but as far as spinners are concerned, the case of Ravichandran Ashwin and Nathan Lyon, both getting 500 plus wickets, can enter the 600 club. It will be interesting to see whether these two off-spinners enter the 700 club or not.
