India will open a new consulate in Rangpur, Bangladesh, PM Modi announced
India-Bangladesh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the media after meeting Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed at Hyderabad House on Saturday. PM Modi stressed that the two leaders have met several times in the last year, this visit is special as PM Sheikh Hasina is India's first state guest in the third term of the NDA government.

India will start an e-medical visa facility for Bangladeshi citizens coming for treatment. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced this on Saturday. Along with this, India will also open a new consulate in Rangpur, Bangladesh with the aim of better facilitating the people living in the north-west region of the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has updated on these decisions while addressing the present media after meeting Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed at Hyderabad House on Sunday. Modi said the two leaders have met many times over this past year and that this visit is unique because it marks the first state guest in India for the NDA government's third term after them.
The PM said, "We have met ten times in the last year, but today's meeting is special because Prime Minister Hasina is the first state guest of our third government. Bangladesh is important for our Neighbourhood First Policy, Act East Policy, Vision Sagar, and Indo-Pacific Vision. We have completed many development programs together in the last year."
The PM added, "India has decided to launch e-medical visa for Bangladeshi nationals soon coming here for treatment. It has been decided that a new Assistant High Commission will be opened in Rangpur to help serve people living in the north-western part of Bangladesh."
He wished good luck to the cricket teams of the two countries before the T20 World Cup Super 8 match between India and Bangladesh that is to be played today. "I wish both the cricket teams of India and Bangladesh all the best for today's match," he said. Further, PM Modi said, "India and Bangladesh. have these days even begun trading in Indian Rupees. I have to relate another experience: we are exporting electricity from Nepal to Bangladesh, using the Indian grid".
He said both countries had decided to start the talks at the technical level soon for the renewal of the Ganges River Treaty. In contrast, a technical team will visit Bangladesh to review the conservation and management of the Teesta River that falls in Bangladesh.
