By 2030, India will become the world's third-largest e-commerce market after China and America and the size of the digital economy will increase to $ 8 trillion. At the same time, India's e-commerce market is expected to grow to around $3,250 crore by this year.
According to an estimate, by 2030, more than 50 crore people will be shopping online in India. At present, India's e-commerce market is worth about $1,130 crore, which is growing at the rate of about 21% annually. The biggest factor for its growth is affordable internet at the rate of Rs 13.5 per GB. Access to the internet through mobile has increased by 21 percent in 2023-24 as compared to 2019. By 2025, 87% of households will have an internet connection. The number of Internet consumers shopping online is projected to increase. Between 2019 and 2026, the number of active internet users in rural India will increase to more than 88 crore at an annual rate of 22 percent.
India's digital economy and e-commerce market are expanding primarily due to the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). 1.5 trillion US dollars worth of transactions passed through it in 2022. India's population is expected to use UPI by 2026 when 81 percent of people will own smartphones.
