"India supports Africa's bigger role in multilateral forums like the UN," Jaishankar said on a special occasion
Africa Day: Jaishankar said that India is the third largest contributor to UN peacekeeping operations. Currently, about five thousand Indian personnel are serving in five peacekeeping missions in Africa.
Union External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, speaking on relations between India and Africa at an event in Delhi, the capital, said both countries will have to work very closely with each other. He further said that India expects a mutually beneficial and mutually respectful relationship with a true spirit of being a world brother. He told that India is a supporter of Africa's bigger role in the United Nations and multilateral forums.
Jaishankar reiterated the defense issues of India and Africa. He said that the defense relationship between the two countries is moving forward powerfully. Even the African Defense Minister has visited India several times. The minister added, "Military officers from many countries are trained in our military institutions. India has also contributed to establishing the defense institutions in Nigeria, Ethiopia, and Tanzania." Earlier, he added, "India has deployed training teams in many African countries like Botswana, Namibia, Uganda, Lesotho, Zambia, Mauritius, Seychelles, and Tanzania." Jaishankar added, "India is the third largest contributor to UN peacekeeping missions. Currently, about five thousand Indian personnel are deployed in five peacekeeping missions in Africa." Underlining the role of Africa in the UN and other multilateral forums, he said," During our G20 presidency, you must have seen that India decided to put the global south at the center of global discussions. We emphasize not only Africa's needs but also on Africa's aspirations". Jaishankar also hailed the participation of African countries in the International Solar Alliance (ISA), Global Biofuels Alliance, and Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI). Jaishankar found his expectation at the Fourth India-Africa Forum Summit and called for stronger ties between India and Africa.
