'I was pushed into a corner, had to fight the entire country', former ISRO scientist, Nambi Narayanan narrates his pain
Nambi Narayanan: Narayanan was the chief guest at the first convocation of Netaji Subhash University of Technology (NSUT). He said, "If you have determination, I am sure you will succeed and you have no reason to worry."
Former Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) scientist Nambi Narayanan on Friday recalled his ordeal of struggling to clear his name in an espionage case while advising NSUT students to deal with their problems with determination.
Narayanan was the chief guest at the first convocation of Netaji Subhash University of Technology (NSUT). He said, "If you have determination, I am sure you will succeed and you have no reason to worry."
I was pushed into a corner with some false allegations… I had to fight the entire country – the Centre, the state government, the media, the people and the society. I fought it alone and won the case. After a 24-year legal battle, Narayanan had proved himself innocent in the espionage case in 2018. The 1994 case pertains to allegations that two scientists and four others, including two Maldivian women, transferred certain confidential documents related to India's space program outside the country.

Recalling his legal battle, Narayanan said, 'Of course, it took a long time and the most interesting thing is that if you look at that case, my problem was over in four years. I got what I wanted. But for the remaining 20 years, I was fighting to identify the people who created this problem and then put them in their rightful place. Because it was not possible for me to sleep. So I told myself, go and tackle your problems with determination.
