Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed an election rally in Kumarghat in North Tripura on Monday. On this occasion, the Home Minister said that the Modi government has signed more than 10 agreements in the Northeast and more than 10,000 rebels in various states of the region have surrendered and started their lives again.

Addressing an election rally in Kumarghat in North Tripura, the Home Minister said that during the Congress government at the Centre, the total budget for tribal development across the country was only Rs 24,000 crore and the Modi government increased it to Rs 1.25 lakh crore. The Home Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the first tribal woman Draupadi Murmu the President of India.

The Modi government has built 740 Eklavya Model Residential Schools for the education of tribal students across India in the last ten years, he said, adding that 21% of households are covered by them. Before 2014, there were only 90 such schools in the nation. For tribal people, there is the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Tripura received projects totalling Rs 40,000 crore during the Congress administration at the federal level, but many projects totalling Rs 98,000 crore were awarded to the state during the ten years of the Modi administration.

Highlighting several development initiatives, he stated that while there was previously only one National Highway in Tripura, there are currently nine being built, in addition to the railway line being extended to the border-ridden Sabroom in Southern Tripura. At Sabroom, a special economic zone is being created.

Criticising the Left parties, he claimed that communists fostered a violent and rebellious culture and sustained poverty and economic crises among the impoverished and farmers wherever they held power.
