Indian allrounder Hardik Pandya will lead the national team in the three-match T20 series against Sri Lanka from July 27. However, the star all-rounder will sit out from the three ODIs that will be played immediately after that, for personal reasons.

BCCI sources stated that Hardik was the vice-captain of the team in the T20 World Cup. Now fully fit, he will be available for the three-match T20 series against Sri Lanka. In that case, he will be captaining the Indian team. The T20 series for Sri Lanka is going to be played from Pallekele from 27 to 30 July, and similarly, three ODIs are scheduled in Colombo from 2 to 7 August.

The team for Sri Lanka can be announced today or tomorrow. But it's yet to be known who will be the deputy to Hardik Pandya. He believes, either Suryakumar Yadav or Shubman Gill can be made the vice-captain. Captaining in the recent 4-1 victory in T20 lately against Zimbabwe, was Gill. Surya has also captained in a match on the South Africa tour last year.

According to Jagran, Hardik has sought rest from the ODI series and he has informed the team's regular captain Rohit Sharma about this. A BCCI official said that Hardik has taken a break for personal reasons and there is no problem with his fitness. Shubman Gill or KL Rahul can be given the captaincy of the team for the ODI series.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah has said loud and clear: if not playing international cricket, then all-star cricketers have got to play domestic cricket. Rohit, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah are exempted. But the rest of the other Test specialists, according to BCCI, have to feature in at least one match of Duleep Trophy in August. After this, the team has to play a Test series with Bangladesh and New Zealand.

This time there is no zonal selection committee, sources said on the Duleep Trophy, adding that the national selectors themselves would select the team for the tournament. Hence, all those contenders who shall play in the Test team will be selected. Rohit, Virat, and Bumrah will have an option whether they want to play or not.
