Meanwhile, the people of Delhi, Noida, Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Patna, Muzaffarpur, and Ara are going to get relief today. The National Cooperative Consumers Federation of India (NCCF) is going to sell cheap tomatoes in Delhi-NCR today to provide relief to consumers troubled by the rising prices of tomatoes. It is being told that the sale of tomatoes has started at these places through mobile vans at a subsidized rate of Rs 80 per kg.

Talking to the media, Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh said that the NCCF has started making tomatoes available at cheap rates in many places from Friday itself. First of all this sale started in Delhi, and after that from today, it will be available in districts like Noida, Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Patna, Muzaffarpur, and Arrah. Top government officials said tomatoes are being sold through mobile vans at the NCCF office at Rajnigandha Chowk in Noida and at all other places including Delhi.

After re-assessing the situation at more than 500 centers across the country, it has been decided to sell it at Rs 80 per kg from today. Sales begin at several points in Delhi from today Tomato prices touched Rs 250 per kg in retail markets of major cities on Saturday due to heavy monsoon rains and supply disruption. According to government data, the all-India average price of tomatoes stood at around Rs 117 per kg.

According to NCCF Managing Director Anees Joseph Chandra, about 80 percent of the 17,000 kg of tomatoes were sold yesterday. From today its reach and quantity will be increased in Delhi. According to officials, the response to the initiative was good and queues formed at some places to buy the discounted tomatoes. Around 20 mobile vans were sent to areas like Karol Bagh, Patel Nagar, Pusa Road, CGO Complex, Nehru Place, Adarsh Nagar, JJ slum in Wazirpur, and Dhodhapur Shiv Mandir. From today, tomatoes will be available at cheap rates in districts like Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Patna, Muzaffarpur, and Arrah.
