Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra retired, Vikram Mistry will take over today

Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra retired on Sunday. Now Vikram Mistry will take over in his place on Monday. He is currently working as a Deputy National Security Advisor. Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday praised outgoing Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra for his dedication and contribution in the field of foreign policy and national security.

Vinay Kwatra is the foreign secretary who retired on Sunday. Now, he will be replaced by Vikram Mistry on Monday. He is currently serving as the Deputy National Security Advisor. On Sunday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar hailed the outgoing Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra over his commitment and contribution in the field of foreign policy and national security.

He said, "He has helped in creating and executing many of our key strategies. Best wishes to him for his future innings." By the way, Kwatra is now the frontrunner to become India's next ambassador to the US. The post has been vacant since Taranjit Sandhu retired in January.

Kwatra joined the Indian Foreign Service way back in 1988, and during the initial years of service, he was posted to Geneva with India's Permanent Mission. Kwatra assumed charge as Foreign Secretary on 1 May 2022. As Foreign Secretary, Kwatra had to take up many very important geopolitical matters. Most included the situation arising out of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza, and tensions with China on the LAC in eastern Ladakh.
