The Food and Nutrition Board has been formally dissolved by the Central Government's Ministry of Women and Child Development. It was the ministry's technical branch, with its main office located in Delhi. The Food and Nutrition Board maintains several high-caliber laboratories in addition to four regional offices spread across the nation in Faridabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai. On Monday, the ministry announced the board's dissolution in the gazette.

The decision to dissolve the board was taken in the cabinet meeting on April 6 last year. In the November 2020 report of the Chief Economic Advisor, several suggestions were made to make government bodies more efficient and organized. Based on these suggestions, the government had decided to dissolve the board. The government also decided to dissolve the National Women's Fund and the Central Social Welfare Board. The Food and Nutrition Board or FNB was started under the Ministry of Agriculture, but in the year 1993, the Board was transferred to the Ministry of Women and Child Development. 

43 Community Food and Nutrition Units operated by FNB are located all over the nation and offer technical and administrative support to community nutrition initiatives. There are 147 workers on the Board, 33 of whom have resigned voluntarily. Group A technical officers have taken over management of the National Institute of Child Development and Public Cooperation. On the other hand, 61 technical staff members from Groups B and C have been granted honorary deputations to FCI. There has been a transfer of 46 non-technical staff members to the Ministry of Women and Child Development.

The properties owned by the Board in various cities have been handed over to the Estate Directorate. The laboratories of Faridabad and Chennai have been handed over to FCI. The government banned the work of FNB on June 16, 2021, by issuing a gazette notification. On November 30 last year, it was decided to dissolve the board and the board would stop functioning from December 1, 2023.
