Elections should not be held on the occasion of Diwali next year, Canadian government brought a proposal
Elections On Diwali: Elections were to be held in Canada on Diwali next year. However, the government does not want this and has taken a step toward this. What is that step? Let us know.
Relations between India and Canada have soured in the last few months. Because of this, Hindus are also angry with Canada and Canadian PM Justin Trudeau. A large number of Hindus live in Canada. In such a situation, Trudeau also knows that Hindus cannot be angered. In such a situation, his government has now started trying to woo Hindu voters. For this, the government has brought a proposal in Parliament to change the date of elections to be held on October 20 next year, so that Hindus and Indians settled in Canada do not face any problems in celebrating the important festival of Diwali in October.
This action by the Trudeau administration is a component of the reforming the Elections Act proposals that were presented this week in the Canadian Parliament. The Canadian government's Department of Democratic Institutions provided information on this by stating in a press release that the goal of this bill is to boost voter turnout. In order to accommodate this, the government has decided to postpone the elections from their original scheduled date in 2025 until Monday of next week.
The Canadian Hindu Chamber of Commerce's vice-president, Kushagra Sharma, reported that voter turnout was 5% lower in the province of Ontario during last year's Diwali municipal elections. In Toronto, turnout was down 11% and in Brampton, down 10%.
The Hindu community of Canada has welcomed this step of the Trudeau government. However, along with this, the Hindu community has also said that appropriate steps should be taken to fight the increasing Hinduphobia in Canada.
