After Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement on deepfake video, there has been talk about its seriousness and danger. Union Minister Rajiv Chandrashekhar has said on the deepfake video that this issue is being discussed with all social media platforms. He said that if any law is needed to stop this then it will be prepared.

He said, 'It is the sole responsibility of the government and social media companies to ensure that the Internet in India remains open, secure, reliable and accountable for our digital citizens. For this we are in constant touch with tech companies. The Prime Minister has raised a very important issue and we will sit down with tech firms to ensure that they do not allow deepfake content to spread on their platforms. You will have to wait till November 24 for the final decision. For this, we will come up with a framework which will strengthen our existing framework which is already in place.

Let us tell you that last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had termed deepfake content as dangerous and said that a video of him playing Garba has gone viral, even though he has never played Garba. After this statement of PM Modi, deepfake has now become a national issue.

After this statement of PM Modi, Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had said that there will be a meeting with social media companies on this issue. Ashwini Vaishnav had said that the government will soon meet social media platforms on the deepfake issue. He said the safe harbor immunity clause would not apply if platforms do not take adequate steps to remove deepfakes.
