Ravneet Kaur is a 1988 batch IAS officer of the Punjab cadre. According to the order issued on May 15, his appointment will be for five years or till the date of attaining the age of 65 years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
As chairperson, Ravneet Kaur will get a salary of Rs 4.50 lakh per month and this does not include house and car.
According to the website of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, the Competition Commission of India has been constituted by the Government of India in March 2009 under the Competition Act 2002 to administer, implement and enforce the Act. Its objectives are to prevent practices from having an adverse effect on competition, to promote and maintain competition in markets, to protect the interests of consumers, and to ensure freedom of trade.
Its CCI endeavors to strike a balance between all parties including consumers, industry, and government within the ambit of the law. Decisions are taken on behalf of the CCI regarding the monopoly arising on the market due to the policies of the companies. As we saw in Google's decision last few days.
