The empowered committee in the PLI (Production-Linked Incentive) scheme has approved the distribution of Rs 1,000 crore to beneficiary firms in the electronics sector, a top government official said. Under this scheme, out of the claim of Rs 3,400 crore, Rs 2,900 crore was distributed by March 2023. It aims to promote domestic manufacturing, create jobs, and support exports.
Further, the official said that in the recently held committee meeting, approval was given for the distribution of Rs 1,000 crore under the PLI scheme for the electronics sector. The beneficiary companies will get this amount soon. Let us tell you that this will be the first disbursement of this financial year.
The scheme was announced in 2021 for 14 sectors including large-scale electronic manufacturing, white goods, textiles, medical devices manufacturing, and automobiles. Rs 1.97 lakh crore was invested in this scheme. The scheme is performing well in sectors like electronics, pharma, and medical devices.
32 beneficiaries were approved under the PLI scheme for large-scale electronics manufacturing including mobile phones and electronic components.
In this scheme, NITI Aayog, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and Department of Expenditure, the Department of Revenue, the Department of Economic Affairs, and the Office of DGFT (Directorate General) have been empowered. The committee gives its recommendations for the distribution of incentive amounts to the selected beneficiaries under the PLI scheme.
Recently, high-level review meetings have been organized to review the progress of the scheme. PLI has performed quite well in sectors like electronics manufacturing, pharma, food processing, and white goods. Sectors that are not gaining good momentum include solar PV modules, advanced chemistry cell (ACC) batteries, textile products, etc.
