Madras HC has given a big order. In which the courts have been issued a circular directing that the courts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry can only put up photographs of Mahatma Gandhi and Tamil poet-saint Thiruvalluvar. The HC has ordered the Principal District Judge, Kancheepuram, to remove BR Ambedkar's portrait from the main gate of the Bar Association's newly constructed Joint Court Complex in Alandur. This circular was sent by the Madras High Court to all the district courts on behalf of the Registrar General on July 7. In this circular, the HC has referred to incidents in which statues of national leaders have been damaged on several occasions and this has led to social conflict. Apart from this, problems related to the breakdown of law and order have arisen in various cases.

The issue pertains to applications received from various lawyers' associations seeking permission to unveil portraits of Ambedkar and senior advocates of the association concerned. Following this, on April 11, the full bench of the HC dismissed all requests related to the issue.

Issuing the order, the High Court also mentioned in the circular incidents in which statues of national leaders have been vandalized and this has led to clashes. Also, law and order-related problems have also arisen at various places in the circular. The full bench of the High Court resolved that no further construction of the statue would be permitted on the court premises.

The circular issued by the Madras HC stated that "Recently, on April 11, the full court considered a similar request and reiterated all earlier resolutions and unanimously decided that except for statues and pictures of Gandhi and Thiruvalluvar, no other pictures and images shall be displayed anywhere inside the court premises." The Registrar-General directed that in case of any deviation, action would be taken by giving an appropriate complaint to the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
