A top official of Pakistan's Adiala Jail has apologized in the court on Wednesday. In fact, despite the court order, former Prime Minister Imran Khan was not allowed to talk to his sons. After this Imran filed a contempt petition against him. Imran's sons Suleman and Qasim live in Britain with his ex-wife Gemina, from whom he divorced in 2004.

Special court judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain on Monday issued a notice to the superintendent of Adiala jail for failing to arrange a phone conversation between Imran Khan and his sons despite the court's order. In his reply to the court, a senior jail official on Tuesday apologized for not allowing the ousted prime minister to talk to his sons, 'Express Tribune' newspaper reported on Wednesday.

According to the newspaper, the superintendent, in his reply, said that on October 18, special measures were taken to enable the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief to talk to his children, but WhatsApp calls to international numbers in the jail were prohibited. There is no permanent facility to do so. He said calls can be directed through the jail PCO that other inmates use to talk to family and lawyers.
However, according to the newspaper, the IG Jail issued a letter regarding the protocol for the accused under the Official Secrets Act and it said that the official PCO facility is not available to the accused under the Act.

The superintendent requested the court to dismiss the contempt case against him as he was not violating the court order. Imran Khan (71) was transferred there from District Jail Attock on September 26 and since then he is in Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail. He was arrested on August 5 after being convicted in the Toshakhana case.
