₹75,000 crore solar rooftop scheme gets Centre's approval, 1 crore families to benefit
Solar rooftop schemes: A Cabinet meeting was held today under the leadership of PM Modi. Union Minister Anurag Thakur said, 'PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme' has been approved today. Under this scheme, one crore families will get 300 units of free electricity.

The Center on Thursday approved a ₹75,000 crore rooftop solar scheme for one crore homes. Today a cabinet meeting was held under the leadership of PM Modi. After this meeting, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said, 'PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme' has been approved today. The Union Minister said that the scheme will not only help families and promote domestic manufacturing of solar energy components but will also provide direct employment to 17 lakh people.
Under this scheme, one crore families will get 300 units of free electricity. Each family can get a subsidy of ₹30,000 for a 1 kW system and ₹60,000 for a 2 kW system. According to the official website of the government, the project cost for a 3Kw plant is around Rs 1.26 lakh, out of which the government gives a subsidy of Rs 54 thousand. Under this scheme, Central Financial Assistance (CFA) will be provided for residential rooftop solar installation.
