Tomato prices have been skyrocketing for the last few days amidst the ongoing heavy rains and floods in the country. In many places, one has to spend up to Rs 200 to buy one kilogram of tomatoes. Due to the increase in the prices of tomatoes, people are buying less. Meanwhile, the people of Delhi-NCR are going to get relief from today. The National Cooperative Consumers Federation of India (NCCF) is going to sell cheap tomatoes in Delhi-NCR today to provide relief to consumers who are troubled by the rising prices of tomatoes. It is being told that the sale of tomatoes through mobile vans has started in the capital at a subsidized rate of Rs 90 per kg.

Speaking to the media, Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh said that the NCCF would start selling tomatoes at a subsidized rate of Rs 90 per kg from Friday. Tomatoes have been procured in good quantity from the growing centers. Top government officials said tomatoes are being sold at the NCCF office at Rajnigandha Chowk in Noida and through mobile vans in Greater Noida and other places.

NCCF in Delhi is starting sale today Friday at 11 am through 30 mobile vans in all 11 districts. According to top officials, the plan is to sell around 17,000 kg of tomatoes on the first day. NCCF plans to sell around 20,000 kg of tomatoes on Saturday and will increase the quantity to 40,000 kg per day as the sales increase.

Top government officials say the cooperative will start selling in other cities like Lucknow, Kanpur, and Jaipur during the weekend. Instructions have been given to the cooperative societies NCCF and Nafed from the central government to sell tomatoes.
