The cases challenging the termination of 25,753 Bengali workers' jobs will be heard by the Supreme Court on Tuesday. On Monday, the hearing on the petitions filed in opposition to the Calcutta High Court's order was postponed by the superior court. These petitions include the petition from the Bengali government as well.
A lack of time prevented the bench consisting of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala, and Justice Manoj Mishra from hearing these petitions. The bench said it would hear the matter on Tuesday.
In the last hearing, the bench had refused to pass any interim direction to stay the order of the Calcutta High Court. The Calcutta High Court had canceled the appointments of a total of 25,753 employees in Group C and Group D, including teachers of classes 9, 10, 11, and 12, by the State School Service Commission (SSC). The High Court had considered the entire recruitment process of 2016 illegal in the school recruitment scam.
