News agency PTI quoted sources as saying that most of the leaders making this demand are from those states where Congress is in direct competition with other parties of the I.N.D.I.A alliance. These leaders are confident that the party will perform well in the assembly elections of 5 states, due to which they will be in a strong position during seat sharing.
Elections are to be held in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram later this year. Although the Election Commission has not announced the dates yet, there is a possibility that it will be announced in the first week of October.
