Team India will tour South Africa for three T20, three ODI and two Test matches between 10 December 2023 and 7 January 2024. The board has said that Dravid will be with the team during this assignment. Earlier it was believed that Dravid did not want to continue his tenure further and VVS Laxman could be sent as coach for the South Africa tour.
Jai Shah convinced Dravid
BCCI secretary Jay Shah had spoken to Dravid last week, a BCCI official told PTI. After this conversation, Dravid agreed to extend his tenure as coach.
Laxman has a very busy schedule
VVS Laxman is very busy with the work of National Cricket Academy (NCA). Also the Under-19 World Cup is also coming. Laxman will continue to fulfill this responsibility. If Dravid takes a break from any assignment of the Indian team, then Laxman can become the coach in his place under a stop gap arrangement. Laxman has played this role before also. Currently the Indian team is playing a T-20 series with Australia and Laxman is the coach of the team.
