Pathum Nissanka and fast bowlers gave Sri Lanka a historic victory, won a Test match in England after 10 years

Sri Lanka defeated England by 8 wickets in the Oval test on the strength of an unbeaten hundred from Pathum Nissanka. Sri Lanka created a historical win in the third and last Test match. After continuous ten years, the Lankans got a Test win in England. Sri Lanka, for the last time, won a Test match in England in the year 2014. Now it has got the win. However, England won the series 2-1.

England had set Sri Lanka a target of 219 runs to win, out of which Sri Lanka reached before lunch on the fourth day, having lost two wickets. Pathum Nissanka, who was unbeaten on the third day, played an innings of 127 runs while remaining unbeaten. The experienced batsman Angelo Mathews remained unbeaten after scoring 32 runs. There was a partnership of 111 runs between the two. Kusal Mendis could score only 39 runs.

For, the fast bowlers of Sri Lanka had created devastation previously. The second innings of England had reduced to 156 runs. Lahiru Kumara took four wickets for 21 runs in 7 overs. Vishwa Fernando took three wickets for 40 runs in 8 overs. In front of the deadly bowling of these two, the batsmen of England could not stand on the crease. Jamie Smith played an innings of 67 runs in the second innings of England as seven batsmen failed to cross the mark of double-digit score.
