The Supreme Court on Thursday extended the interim bail of former Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik by three months in a money laundering case. Malik had moved the top court against the Bombay High Court's July 13 order denying him bail on medical grounds in the case being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

A bench of Justices Bela M Trivedi and Dipankar Datta said Malik is suffering from kidney disease and his condition has not improved since he was granted interim bail for two months on August 11.

It is known that ED had arrested Malik in February 2022 in a case allegedly related to the activities of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim and his associates.

Nawab Malik had sought relief from the High Court claiming that he was suffering from chronic kidney disease besides several other ailments. He also sought bail on merits. At the same time, the High Court had said that it would hear his petition seeking bail on merits after two weeks.
